The Dominican Republic continues to consolidate its position as a leader in regional tourism, recording the arrival of 1,020,646 visitors in April alone, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This was announced by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, while presenting official tourism sector statistics from Santiago de los Caballeros. He also highlighted that growth in April was 18% compared to 2023 and 55% compared to 2019. “Tell me if these aren’t historic figures,” the minister said during the event, which was attended by business leaders and hoteliers from the Cibao region.
So far this year, the Caribbean nation has welcomed 4,369,288 visitors, another record number. Of these, 3,069,832 arrived by air and 1,299,456 by sea, demonstrating the diversification of access to the destination.
Punta Cana Airport remains the country’s main gateway, accounting for 64% of air traffic, followed by Las Américas (19%), Cibao (9%), Puerto Plata (6%), and Romana (2%) during the January-April 2025 period.
During Holy Week, the Dominican Republic welcomed 201,889 tourists, reaching hotel occupancy rates above 85%. According to Collado, these visits generated US$242 million for the hotel sector and more than RD$1.6 billion in purchases for the agricultural sector.
This data reinforces the country’s commitment to sustainable tourism and its economic impact, positioning it as one of the most dynamic destinations in the Caribbean.
