The president, Luis Abinader, celebrated this Thursday the inauguration of a new logistics center in Punta Cana, under the name of “Punta Cana Free Trade Zone” (Zona Franca Punta Cana, in Spanish), which opened this Wednesday.
“The Dominican Republic continues to elevate its leadership in the region. With ‘Punta Cana Free Trade Zone’ we open a new chapter: more employment, more competitiveness and a country that is consolidating itself as the main logistics hub in the Caribbean. We continue to move forward with vision and results,” Abinader said.
As indicated by the Presidency in its X account, this Puntacana Group project is the first air, industrial and free zone logistics center in the region, and will generate more than 9,000 jobs.
Its design aims to consolidate the Dominican Republic as a regional center for world-class technical and logistical services, reducing transportation costs and opening new trade routes.
The complex has a 15,890 m² logistics center for the multimodal handling of goods, an industrial zone of 6,300 m² in its first stage – with the capacity to expand up to 60,000 m² – and a 22,000 m² fuel terminal for the care of cargo aircraft, which will generate 200 jobs.
It is a commitment (the work) for Dominican talent, for the transfer of knowledge and technology, for quality employment and productive diversification of the country. Leading companies in aeronautical technical services, advanced manufacturing, logistics services, production of electronic components and international distribution of luxury goods will be installed here,” said the president of the Puntacana Group, Frank Elías Rainieri Kuret.
International alliance
The logistics center will operate in alliance with an international air cargo terminal located within the premises of the free zone, with a total space of 8,600 m², of which 50% is dedicated to cold storage, which makes the complex a strategic point for the import, export and distribution of goods.
The Puntacana Group is betting that the installation of companies dedicated to aeronautical maintenance, advanced manufacturing, the production of electronic components, high-value logistics and the international distribution of luxury goods will boost the country’s productive diversification and its integration into global value chains.
