Avelo Airlines has launched its first scheduled international route between Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) and Hartford Bradley International Airport (BDL). It has also started its second non-stop route to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina, becoming the only airline offering direct flights from PUJ to these two destinations.
Avelo will operate the Hartford route twice a week, on Fridays and Mondays, and the Raleigh-Durham route on Saturdays and Wednesdays, both using Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, it was reported in a press release.
Passengers were welcomed to the rhythm of merengue at an event led by strategic allies, the airport community and the media.
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said: “Our inaugural international service to Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) is an important milestone for Avelo. As the only airline offering non-stop flights to the Dominican Republic from Connecticut and North Carolina, we are excited that our travelers will be able to enjoy Punta Cana’s famous beaches, vibrant energy and laid-back charm more than ever before. We also look forward to making it easier for our customers in the Dominican Republic to connect with family and friends in Connecticut and the Raleigh-Durham area.”
Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) Director of Air Operations Giovanni Rainieri said: “This route expansion marks an important milestone for both Avelo Airlines and Punta Cana Airport, underscoring our shared commitment to offering passengers convenient travel options. It also reinforces the airport’s position as a key hub in the Caribbean region. We are delighted to celebrate the opening of this new air route together.”
