Punta Cana Airport projects 11 million passengers by 2025

The Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) reached its 40th anniversary this Thursday as the first private commercial aviation infrastructure in the world. In an anniversary event that was attended by President Luis Abinader, the CEO of Grupo Puntacana, Frank Elías Ranieri, highlighted that the expansion of Terminal B allows for the arrival of more than 11 million passengers by 2025.

The expansion of Terminal B that we inaugurated today, from the impressive design of its infrastructure, to the quality of its services, definitely stands out compared to other proposals in Latin America and the world,” said Rainieri.

The improvements to Terminal B represent the most recent investment by the Puntacana Group to improve airport services, valued at more than 5.4 billion pesos. Its expansion includes six boarding gates and seven air bridges, in addition to flagship amenities to facilitate waiting and the services that passengers demand.

With this investment, we can move 5,000 passengers per hour, which will exceed 12 million passengers per year,” said Rainieri, after indicating that the annual average is currently over 8 million.

Rainieri explained that the increase in airport capacities will guarantee tourist demand in the eastern region, which will have 14,000 new hotel rooms in the coming years.

Currently, the Punta Cana Airport mobilizes 68% of the tourist air traffic in the entire country.
