There are few more emotional experiences in nature than viewing Humpback Whales up close in their natural environment. Taking the opportunity to see these magnificent creatures will leave you with memories lasting a lifetime.
The Humpback Whale season in the Dominican Republic goes usually from mid January till the end of March where visitors will flock to see the hundreds of humpback whales that migrate each year during the breeding season to Samaná Bay, off a peninsula in the northeast of the island. From nature lovers to adventure seekers, anyone can appreciate the beauty of Samaná and its humpback whales.
This year we´re offering two different tour options to see this beautiful wonder of nature: the Whale Watching Tour in the Samana Bay, and (for those who don´t want to spend the whole day off-resort) the Whale Watching Tour in Miches, both leaving from Punta Cana.
The Whale Watching tour in Samana is very similar to the classic Samana Tour and includes the visit to the beautiful island of Cayo Levantado, also known as “Bacardi Island” and (optionally) the waterfall “El Limon”. After the whale watching activity you’ll move directly to Cayo Levantado to have lunch and spend some free time at the beautiful beach that the island offers. This tour can or not include the stop at Limon Waterfall.
Itinerary (approx times)
6:00 – 7:00am Pick up of the customers from the different hotels by comfortable bus with A/C and wifi.
07:30 From the meeting point departure to Las Canitas in Sabana de la Mar
09:30 Arrival at the private dock (use of the bathrooms and light snack provided)
10:00 Boarding to start our journey to the sanctuary of the humpback whales in Samana
11:00 Search for the whales for a 45-minute period
11:45 Head to Cayo Levantado in the Samana Bay
12:30 Arrival in Cayo Levantado with welcome cocktail
13:00 Lunch time (lunch buffet, typical Dominican)*
13:45 – 16:00 Spare time in Cayo Levantado with open bar (rum based drinks)
(*Customers who choose to add the stop at the waterfall “El Limon” after the whale watching will move to the waterfall and will have less time to spend in Cayo Levantado. Tour will be more rushed reason why we usually don’t recommend this option).
16:00 – 16:45 On board again direction back to Las Canitas
18:00 Arrival in Las Canitas and departure to the hotels in Punta Cana
19:30 – 20:00 Arrival at hotels in Punta Cana

WHALE WATCHING IN MICHES (shorter tour)
For those who don’t want to spend a whole day off-resort or just would prefer a shorter adventure without renouncing to live this incredible experience, we’re also offering now the option to enjoy the whale watching activity leaving from the closer port of Miches.
This tour doesn’t reach the area of Samana so you won’t visit Bacardi Island (Cayo Levantado) neither the waterfall El Limon. On the other hand you will have the chance to enjoy some snorkeling and visit the virgin natural pool of Miches, home of many starfishes.

11:30 Visit to the natural pool of Miches, house of the giant starfishes, and snorkeling activity
13:00 Return to our private dock and departure for the hotels in Bávaro – Punta Cana
14:30 Arrival at the different hotels in Punta Cana
