Hurricane Beryl, Category 4, continues its path south of the DR

The National Hurricane Center of the United States (NHC) reported on Tuesday that Hurricane Beryl, the first hurricane of the 2024 hurricane season, continues its rapid path south of the Dominican Republic.

According to its public advisory #17 on Beryl, the aforementioned meteorological center indicated that this atmospheric phenomenon is moving at 35 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds recorded at 250 kilometers per hour.

It also maintained its alert for the southern Dominican coast, from Punta Palenque to the border with Haiti.

The NHC also forecast that Beryl will weaken later in the day, but stressed that it is expected to maintain major hurricane strength as it continues to move into the central Caribbean and imminently passes near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Thursday.

Similarly, Beryl is expected to weaken further after passing through these nations, but will remain a hurricane in the northwestern Caribbean.
