Mexico City – Punta Cana has been awarded the “Medal for Excellence in Meeting & Events 2024” in the “Latin American City” category, awarded by Convenciones Latinoamérica Magazine.
This prestigious recognition is based on a national survey conducted among congress organizers, business conventions, associations, chambers of commerce and tourism service providers, reaffirming the destination’s position as a leader in the meetings and events industry.
The selection process considered strategic aspects such as operational ease, high standards of cleanliness and safety, diversity in the hotel offering, quality in the facilities and venues for holding events, support infrastructure, professionalism throughout the entire value chain, friendliness of local staff and technological tools available in the destination.
The high rating of Punta Cana’s airport infrastructure and its road connectivity with other destinations were also key factors in obtaining this award.
The boost to this MICE segment is reinforced by the strategies implemented by the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. Participation in specialized fairs, the holding of training sessions, meetings and events with key players in the sector are an integral part of the effort to showcase the unique offering that Punta Cana and other Dominican destinations have to offer.
This award reinforces Punta Cana’s image as a world-class destination for events and meetings. This recognition is a testament to the constant effort of the Dominican tourism industry to offer exceptional experiences and high-quality services. MICE tourism allows for deseasonalizing demand, improving the profitability and sustainability of the sector.
The recognition adds to a series of awards that highlight the country’s excellence and commitment to the tourism industry and the MICE segment, consolidating it as the preferred option for event organizers and planners in Latin America.
Punta Cana is the most visited destination in the Dominican Republic, concentrating around 52% of international tourists who come to the country. With a robust hotel infrastructure that offers more than 43,000 rooms, many focused on the luxury/meetings segment.
This destination has a wide variety of rooms that allow for the holding of events of various sizes, thus increasing its attractiveness for the MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions).
Air connectivity plays a fundamental role; the optimal conditions of Punta Cana International Airport support the sustained growth of the MICE segment and facilitate the arrival of both organizers and international participants.
