The Dominican Republic broke a new record for tourist arrivals during 2024, receiving a total of 11,192,047 visitors, the Ministry of Tourism reported on Wednesday.
The largest flow of tourists came from the United States, with 92% of visitors expressing their intention to choose the country as a tourist destination again, reaffirming its position in the international market.
“We are in a year that marked the consolidation of the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination. I am extremely proud of what we have been able to achieve,” said the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, who stressed that these figures represent a milestone in the history of the sector.
Of this figure, 7,125,398 were foreign visitors, representing 87%, while 1,410,344 were Dominicans living abroad. The largest number of arrivals was recorded at Punta Cana Airport, with 4,995,930 tourists, followed by Las Americas Airport with 2,004,045 people.
11% of visitors entered through Cibao Airport, 5% through Puerto Plata Airport and only 1% through La Romana.
Cruise passengers
The development of large ports played a fundamental role in the arrival of tourists to the country, this is confirmed by the figure of 2,656,305 cruise passengers, 18% more than in 2023.
These data were broken down by Liliana Cruz, head of Research and Statistics at the institution’s Directorate of Tourism Intelligence, who described last year’s positive figures as “a scandal.”
With these results, the country continues to strengthen its leadership in the Caribbean, backed by its paradisiacal beaches, its rich cultural offering and outstanding hospitality that captivates travelers.
