Only a few months missing before it’s time again to meet our lovely and loyal whales! Every year hundreds of humpback whales migrate during the breeding season from Canada to the Samaná Bay, in the northeast of the Dominican Republic.
The whale season goes usually from mid January till mid March and during these 2 months you will have the opportunity to see the Humpback Whales up close in their natural environment, leaving you with memories lasting a lifetime!
After many years running this tour, for the new upcoming season we will make a change following the suggestions of our customers. During the whale season, we will take off the stop at the waterfall Salto El Limon, in order to avoid having a rushed tour and to give more time to our customers to see the whales in the sanctuary. In the past, in fact, the tour turned out to be extremely rushed due to the many activities included during the day, and because of that it was also very long, sometimes more than 14 hours.
This year we want to offer our customers a more relaxing and smooth experience, with enough time to see the whales as well as a good time to spend at the beach in Bacardi Island. After an early pick up from your hotel in Punta Cana (from 6:00 till 7:00 am depending on the hotel) and a convenient stop in a meeting point to organize the transportation, you’ll move on a brand-new bus to the small village of Las Canitas, close to Sabana de la Mar. The ride takes around 1.5 hours and on the way, enjoy great views of the Dominican countryside and the East Coast while the guide gives information about the life and local customs of the Dominicans.
After reaching the village of Las Canitas, in proximity of Sabana de la Mar, you will be welcomed by the local people and have the chance to relax, eat something, use the toilet, etc. before the real tour starts.
Then let the adventure begin! It’s time to get on board our boat to ride thorugh the beautiful Samana Bay, home of the Humpback Whales. The boat will reach the “Sanctuary” in the middle of the bay and for around 45 minutes you’ll have the chance to observe humpback whales in their natural environment. Make sure you have your phone ready to take many pictures! This is a truly life time experience!
It’s lunch time! After the whale watching activity, we will continue our boat trip through the Samana Bay till reaching the gorgeous Cayo Levantado, also known as “Bacardi Island”. Here fill your belly with a delicious traditional Dominican lunch complete with rice, beans, meat, salad, fresh fruit and coffee to finish with. Drinks are included too! Take advantage of the open bar with rum, soft drinks and water.
While the morning has been dedicated to the adventure, the afternoon will be focused on relaxing. Once on the island, prepare to experience the white sandy beaches and the warm turquoise water of this unique and relaxing place.
After around 1.5- 2 hours spent at the island, it will be time to start to make your way back to Punta Cana, where you’ll have plenty of time to recall this wonderful experience.
